‘Environmental Values Policy Toolkit: A component of the Regional Framework for Nature-based Solutions on BC’s South Coast’ by Marian McCoy (2025).
This report describes policy and guidance materials that are linked to the delivery of nature-based solutions to climate change.
It was collated through desktop research that focused on examples of how local governments and First Nations have sought to protect the natural environment through their land use plans, strategies, and bylaws when they have had mapping and biological or cultural information to support it.
The toolkit is divided into two parts: the First Nations Land Stewardship Toolkit (Part 2 of this report), and the Local Government Policy Toolkit (Part 3 of this report).
It is designed to be used by First Nations and local governments to inform planning processes. It also provides examples that demonstrate the use of mapping and policy to support delivery of nature-based solutions.
This policy options report is also meant to supplement the Biodiversity Atlas for land managers and planners who want more depth on the policy tools provided in the Atlas dashboard
